This is a good survey of traditional African textile manufacture and design, illustrated with examples from the collections of the British Museum.

Field photographs show the processes and subsequent use. North African textiles are included as well as those from Sub-Saharan areas.

An illustrated survey of African textiles - their design, manufacture, and use - as part of African life, art, and culture. Covers textile arts from the entire continent and beautifully illustrated.

In Africa textiles are used not only as everyday clothing but for special events, sometimes with ritual meanings, and to decorate houses and shrines as well as people.

This book looks beyond the design and making of African cloth to its social, political and religious significance.

This book surveys the raw materials used, and describes the various types of looms used by people in different locations across the African continent with a generous number of photographs showing the looms and the fabrics produced on them.

Following chapters discuss pattern dyeing particularly featuring Adire or Indigo designs from Nigeria as well as the bogolon/mudcloth from the Bamana people of Mali as well as discussion of drawn, painted, printed and stenciled designs.

The two final chapters discuss applique and related techniques such as quilting and patchwork, and embroidery in West Africa.
